Cocaine, Fasting and weight loss
21 Jun 2011, 3:20 am

Here’s a quick ‘thought for the day’ to help you with your weight loss goals:

We don’t help cocaine addicts by teaching them about the metabolism of serotonin-norepinephrine-dopamine re-uptake inhibitors or the hormonal implications of cocaine use, yet we try and help people lose weight by teaching them about hormones, metabolic pathways and glucose chemistry.

While learning about the science of weight loss is fun and interesting, the most important part of any weight loss plan is dealing with our habits, environment, perceptions and stressors.

With this being said, the most important part of Eat Stop Eat isn’t the effect on growth hormone or insulin, but rather what you learn during the 24 hours that you are fasting.

Concentrate on using this time to figure out which of your habits, environmental factors, and perceptions are contributing to how much you eat.

Basically – pay attention to what drives you to eat.

Sure you’ll lose weight by fasting, but if you also use your fasts to help improve the way you eat when you are eating, then you’re setting yourself up for long term success.

Lots of Snow and Cardio

Wow, we got a lot of snow yesterday.  I don't have a snow blower so it took quite a while to dig the cars out, clear the sidewalks and get a car onto the street.  My wife and I trudged through the snow to her grandparents house to make sure that their walks were cleared.  My body is aching today!

1/8/11 Weigh In and Measurements

I weighed in this morning and found that I was down to 244.8, so almost 4 pounds down from last Saturday, so I am seeing some good progress.  It probably would have been a bit more, but I ended up having a normal lunch and then some pizza at dinner.

I weighed my waist and it came down to 47 inches, so I lost some fat around my mid-section, which is good to see.  My body fat on the scale remained at 34%.

I Haven't Started The Year Out Too Well With My Blogging!

I thought that I would do a better job with my blogging, but I seem to get too caught up in other things.

I have been doing well and have noticed that my pants are fitting better.  I have walked the stairs to my 11th floor office a couple of times this week and have really watched what I have been eating, save this past lunch from which I just returned.

When I weigh myself on Saturday, I should have lost some weight, but I am not sure how many pounds.  I have noticed that I am sleeping better and feeling a bit better overall.  I have really increased my consumption for fruits and vegetables and have been drinking less diet sodas and other junk foods.

Lunch and Waist Measurement

Since it is New Year's Day, we had some black eyed peas over rice for lunch.  We will probably have the same for dinner.  I decided to go without diet soda for now and have just been drinking water all day.  I will try to drink 10 glasses (1 glass per 25 pounds of weight).

I measured my waist this afternoon and found that my waist (navel to navel) is 48 1/2 inches.  I definitely need to work on getting that down.
